3 significant opposition political parties – Action Congress of Nigeria, Congress for Progressive Change and the All Nigeria Peoples Party– could drop their identifications by April 2013, when talks on their suggested merging are anticipated to be finished.
The merging of the parties is just one of the methods being canvassed by some political leaders to beat the ruling People’s Democratic Party which has controlled power since the arrival of democracy in 1999.
Experts say that genuine and legitimate teamwork among opposition parties for the 2015 general elections might make the election hard for the PDP.
The Chairman of the ANPP National Rebuilding and Interparty Contact Committee, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, informed reporters in Abuja on Sunday that the merging talks between the 3 ACN, CPC and ANPP had hit the last phase.
